U10 Girls Magic came into the season seeded #46 from State Cup Silver White last year. This year, Magic was placed in State Cup Red where they took 2nd place in their first round. In the second round, Magic faced some tough matchups, playing against some top ranked teams, including the #6 team. After the tough second round, Magic was headed into the quarterfinal game against San Juan. Both teams battled hard in what was a very well matched game. Magic went into halftime down 1-0, but came out strong in the second half and fought with more heart. They battled for every 50/50 ball, never giving up, and eventually tied the game with 10 minutes left in the game. The tie held and the game was sent into and through two over time periods. With the game still tied at 1-1, they moved on to penalty kicks. Magic’s goal-keeper, Rachel Burkes, saved the first three shots on goal, while Magic’s players shot and made their first three kicks, sealing the victory and sending Magic on to the next round.

Magic would face San Ramon in the semi-finals. Magic came out firing and with a strong attack, scored a goal within the first ten minutes. In the second half, again they came out strong and put another goal away to make it 2-0. With only five minutes left in the game, San Ramon pressed hard and did everything they could to score, getting their wish and tying the game at 2-2 with less than a minute to play. The last minute momentum swing did not deter Magic who continued to battle their way through another two overtime periods and back into their second PK shootout of the tournament. Magic struck first on their third attempt. Having missed three, the pressure was on San Ramon. Again, goal-keeper Rachel Burkes came up huge and made a full-extension diving save to hold onto Magic’s lead. Magic’s fourth shooter found the back of the net, punching their ticket to the championship game. After working and fighting so hard all season, the girls were excited and ready to play. Although they played hard and never gave up, Magic fell in the championship game, but they walked off the field proud of their teammates and how far they had come. Magic finished this season ranked #26 in Premier 3 elite bracket! GO MAGIC!!!
