After topping their group with two wins on Saturday, the 02G White were victorious in a penalty shootout in Sunday’s semi-final against Fremont United ’02, sending them to the championship game where they fell CV Earthquakes ’01, 0-2 .
In an exciting semi-final, the 02G went behind 1-0 on a deflection in the first half, but tied the game up just before halftime through Maddie Barangan on a cross from Alexis Przekurat. Shortly after halftime, WC went behind for a second time when a shot deflected and wrong footed Cooper. WC came close several times to equalizing, but it wasn’t until 3 minutes from the end of regular time that Lexi Sanchez chipped home the tying goal to send the game into OT. After a scoreless OT, GK Ari Cooper forced Fremont United into 2 shots off the crossbar, and Morgan Kelly stepped up to smash home the winner from the spot, 4-3.
