Walnut Creek Soccer Club and Contra Costa FC are coming together on Saturday, October 21st to help those affected by the North Bay fires. They have organized a benefit event with Napa United to be held in Walnut Creek at Northgate High School. The event will have two games, a youth U16 game, and a Men’s premier game.
The idea to do a benefit game came up a few days after the fires started. The huge impact of the tragedy was clear and CCFC and WCSC began to look at ways that each of the clubs could help.
CCFC, a men’s competitive team playing in LIGA NorCal, already had a league match scheduled for October 21st against Napa United and thought that match could be a good opportunity to rally the local community to come out and support. Danny D’Agostino, from CCFC shared the idea with Steve Chappell, at WCSC, who was also working on fundraising efforts with WCSC. Steve looked at the club schedules for the 21st and saw that one of the U16 Boys teams was scheduled to also play a Napa United team. It was clear from that point that this benefit could be a bigger community rally call.
The two clubs reached out to Arik Housley, at Napa United, to see if both his teams would be able to participate. At the time the North Bay was still in the middle of the crisis and everyone within his club was in some way effected by the fires. So, there was uncertainty if they could make it happen. However, by Monday, October 16th, Arik had contact with both teams and the event was a go.
WCSC secured Northgate High School as the venue since the facility can hold a larger crowd. Both clubs see this as a family event and feel Saturday evening is a great time for families to get together for a good cause.
The event will begin at 4pm when gates and a kid zone open. The U16 game will start at 5pm and it will be followed by the adult game at 7pm. There will be food available at the event as well as activities for kids thanks to local sponsors.
100% of the ticket sales will go to families affected by the fires. The proceeds will go to NorCal’s Fundraiser efforts where the NorCal Board of Directors has decided to match all funds raised in this effort, up to $100,000.00.
